My entire family has been on a health kick lately. With my brother Matt working towards his professional MMA fighting card, he’s started cutting weight and getting in optimal health and it’s created a trickle down effect throughout my inlaws and in my family. One of my friends, Laura, is all about locally grown and introduced me to this amazing company called Front Porch Pickings. We started off with a delivery every other week and it was apparent after the first week that we wanted more!
Now I pride myself on the fact that my boys eat vegetables and fruit in abundance. There have been rare occasions that they have chosen bell peppers over junk food (I need to emphasize rare….but it has happened!!!). Though I believe we’ve started on the right path in healthy eating, we are like many other American families, we buy whatever we want whenever we want it. We never shopped by season (well, except for corn). The great thing about Front Porch Pickings is they are only delivering what is in season. The produce we get is as good as good can get. They have many different “baskets” including an organic basket, a locally fresh (which is a mix of organic and regular growing techniques and all local), a salad basket, so on and so forth. The best part of these baskets? They are really competitive to grocery store prices!!!
This week this is what we got in our Locally Fresh basket for $20:
Speckled Butter Beans
Caribbean Sweet Peppers
My mother-in-law is referring to us as “flexitarians”, which I’m fine with. Our meat consumption has gone way down, we eat well and in abundance, filling our bellies with healthy, natural foods and though I’m forever going to be an ice cream junkie, I’m even finding alternatives to my dairy-trodden diet.
If you want to try Front Porch Pickings please drop them a line and let them know you heard about them from Karrah!
